Imagine you could step back in time to see the sights and sounds of weddings past. Throughout the decades of the 19th century wedding trends and traditions have changed over time. Some trends return with a new updated twist and some stay hidden for good riddance. It is the love for all things vintage that we decided in celebration of our new pavilion addition and 3 year anniversary to have an event showcasing the styles and trends for each era. An evening of wedding retrospect at The Barn at Rock Creek. Showcasing decades of style from vintage dresses and accessories provided by Ida Lou Weddings and Coastal Knot Bridal, to vintage china provided by the Barn at Rock Creek along with an assortment of colored glassware from Provision Design Methods.
Guest’s pulled up the tree lined driveway to the entrance of the Barn at Rock Creek to see a baby blue and white 55’ Chevy Bel Air and a woodland green 71’ Chevy Pickup parked just outside nestled under strings of Edison lights provided by Event Excellence Lighting and Sound. The reflection of the lights danced off each vehicle transforming our guest’s back in time to decades past as they stepped onto the red carpet and were greeted with a glass of bubbly. Two very well-dressed gentleman in white tuxedo jackets provided by Cape Fear Formal Wear, slid the barn doors open for a glimpse at what was in store for the evening.
Once our guest’s stepped inside the barn they were instantly welcomed by the smell of flambe’ donuts provided by Art Catering. Underneath the main chandelier was a beautiful tiered display of fruit and cheese provided by Middle of the Island Catering for guests to nibble while viewing the era inspired looks throughout the interior of the barn. For the 20-30’s inspired era we chose the indoor bar area with it’s rich wood and mirrored barback. We decorated the bar with arrangements of red and white roses and carnation floral spheres placed on antique crystal stands. Vintage barware and period wedding photos were also incorporated into the space to complete the overall look. Across the room guest’s were swept away with the era inspired tablescapes from the 40-50’s, 60-70’s and the 80-90’s. Beginning with the 40-50’s era table which adorned a turquoise linen, clear charger and gold flatware surrounding an arrangement that included peonies, hydrangeas, roses and snapdragon placed in a large cut crystal vase. The sweet simplicity of the 60-70’s era table included all the greens and yellows expected of the time. With floral that included daisies in milk glass containers. Ending the retrospect was the 80-90’s table with its hot pink linen, polka-dot napkins and contemporary centerpiece arrangement. These specialty linens were provided by Party Suppliers & Rentals.
Once our guest’s journey was complete inside the Barn they were brought back to modern day when they stepped outside onto the all white dance floor provided by Party Suppliers and Rentals. Hammered silver cocktail tables provided by Event Works were scattered around for guest to set their drinks on while taking a swing on the dance floor. After dancing with Don Jewell guests were able to rest their feet in the lounge area located under the pavilion. The cozy lounge area was the perfect spot for guests to relax while sipping one of the night’s signature cocktails provided by Martha My Dear Rentals. The pavilion is a beautifully crafted space which overlooks the fountain in the center of the pond. With its impressive wood burning stone fireplace and enough square footage to accommodate the most lavish of events, the new pavilion was the highlight of the evening.
We finished our look with an intimate ceremony setting with farm chairs provided by Event Works and the talented Christina Brier playing the harpist for our guests.
